Default Switch between open drawings from Windows task bar

I recently had some problems with AutoCAD 2006 and had to do a clean install to fix the problem. I hoped that after I re-installed the software I could simply re-load the standard company profile and everything would go back the way it was...it didn't.

The a quite a few little things the profile didn't fix, but the biggest one is that when I have multiple session of AutoCAD open, I only see one session in my windows task bar. To switch between the different sessions of AutoCAD I have to go to the AutoCAD 'Window' pull down menu. Before the re-install when I had 2 or 3 drawings open they all showed up as seperate drawings in my windows task bar at the bottom of the screen. I found an option called the 'single drawing interface mode' in the Options dialog. When I check this option on it shows the different sessions in the bottom of my screen like it was before. Only now the close command doesn't work. When I try to use the close command I get an error that says "Close command not allwed in SDI mode". Before the re-install I used the close command all the time, and multiple drawings showed up in my windows task bar. Is there another setting?

Check out the TASKBAR system variable in AutoCAD. Most likely you had this set to 1 and had "single drawing interface mode" turned off.

You probably don't want SDI mode but you do want to set TASKBAR to 1 (on) in acad.
Windows then shows a taskbar button for each open file in an acad session.

Thanks, that did the trick... Now that you told me that variable I remember setting it way back when I set up 2006. I just cannot figure why that didn;t get saved in the profile

I just made that change setting the taskbar option to '1'. Now when I open a second drawing I get the error below and none of my customization works.

AutoCAD Express Tools Copyright © 2002-2004 Autodesk, Inc.
    ; error: Unknown exception occurred
; warning: unwind skipped on unknown exception

When I have taskbar set to"0" and SDI on, evrything works fine no matter how many drawings I have open. This also only seems to be happening on my work station.

With SDI turned off, your Basically opening up several AutoCADs. Not sure what would not like the SDI being turned off. Have you done a restart of AutoCAD and/or the system. Sometimes the magic restarts fixes all.

By process of elimination I dicovered that the express tools cui file on my station was currupted. I replaced the file with a new one from another station and now everything works fine.

It was really dumb luck that I figured this out. I noticed that my error was occuring after the various manus/cui's were loading. By one by one I unloaded the various CUI's and the error kept happening until I unloaded the express cui. I replaced the CUI file with onr from a station that was working fine and the problem was solved.

In out set up the express tools CUI along with the Cusom CUI load from the users station, not the server. So this is why I was the only one having this problem.
