Layers do not show in "Layers" toolbar but do in Properties

A co-worker of mine's got this weird thing that is happening right now .....

He selects every single line in the drawing with a left box click. Typically, the "Layers" toolbar would change to blank for layer name, layer color lineqweight and so on.

But his stays on the layer (A-Wall, for the sake of this example)

anyone ever seen this before? It shouldn't be like this ...... any help would be appreciated ...

Silly question, but you have checked to see if those lines are on different layers, right?

They are. but when they are selected, the layer toolbar shows the layer he's currently got on. Example:

I select Dimensions.

Layer toolbar shows that they are on A-Elev layer. Open Properties box and IT shows that dims are on A-Anno-Dims layer.

um, have you re-started acad? rebooted puter?
i just had a 'funny' display phenomenon that was corrected by an e-kick...

I restarted CAD already and he just restarted his PC and CAD still shows the same problem. It's as if the Layer Toolbar is frozen out ... not working ... weird.

That was the answer. Pickfirst was set to 0.

I didn't know that pickfirst disabled the Layers Toolbar on the screen if set to 0 ...... is this new?

No - always like that.
With pickfirst=0, the properties toolbar just shows the current values cause it doesn't know that you've picked anything.
