Default Performance issues with AutoCAD over a WAN

    Hi All,

A typical drawing with x-refs on a local network takes 30 seconds to open. If the x-refs are on a server at a different office then it can take up to 15 minutes to open the same drawing. "Enabled with copy" is selected so the x-refs are copied to the local drive when the file is opened - which means that once the open is finished the general drawing editing functions work ok, it's just the 'open' that causes the problem.

I was wondering if there was a way of keeping a copy of the x-refs on the local server but have them automatically synchronised with the master files on the remote server. Is there a software or system app that would perform this function?

The x-refs are all live "work in progress" drawings which are getting updated on a regluar basis.

Their network connection between the offices is only 2Mb at the moment but any suggestions for the way AutoCAD is used would be gratefully received!!

    Cheers
    Scott

Yes, there are both hardware and software solutions. Check out Riverbed's Steelhead and Siler Peak for hardware solutions and Availl for software solution. Usually a combo of hardware/software works best.
