    Default stair visibility, plan region

To all the Revit experts out there:
This one is probably above and beyond, but I am asking it anyway. I am trying to get the Service Level plan to show two separate sets of (overlapping) stairs independently. There is a set of stairs from the level below that I need to show with an up arrow to a landing. Then there is the set of stairs from the Service Level that runs the opposite direction and overlaps it in the plan. I need to show up from the level below and also up toward the level above (with a break line and an up arrow).
I have attached a section and a plan (doc) as well as how I would like the plan to read (jpeg).
    Thank you,
    Stephen

ps: note that in the top screenshot in the doc I am in the edit plan region view and you can see several complicated plan regions...

Does it have to be modeled? You can always draw it in with detail lines.

Wouldn't havig two seperate floor plan for each level do the trick?
Anyhow, try applying Plan Region as you've indicated.

You should be able to do what you want to, you were on the right track with plan regions. Though I will add a couple of caveats that you may not know about. When dealing with stairs and plan regions the region has to be rectangular (it can't be oddly shaped) and it must technically encompass the whole stair, even if you are only interested in a portion of the stair. Speaking from expereince this can get pretty annoying when you stair turns a corner.... Anway, I stray. So, I would do a plan region around your large stair that is going up, and set you cut height such that it cuts the up stair where you want it. I'm presuming that the level of the floor plan in question is set to the level of the top of the shorter stair. In which case you should then be able to screw around with the view depth of said plan region so that you see the "down" stair as well.

I would personally avoid detail lines where possible in this case as they would only potentially cause more problems then solve. Details lines should generally be reserved for their purpose, (detailing) except in extreme situations. I wouldn't consider this situation extreme yet. You should be able to resolve this one.

    Robert,
Thank you very much. your description, explanation, and level of detail were all superb. I was able to manipulate the in the plan using a plan region that allowed the plan to read perfectly for both sets of stairs. All in all, I have officially decided that the plan region tool (though it has limitations and drawbacks) is a handy little tool.
    Thanks again,
    Stephen

Glad I could help. Yes even with its limitations plan regions can be very useful.

It appears that the link to your jpg above is broken. Also, I was wondering what the finished result looked like?

You are replying to a post made in 2006, nearly 13 years ago now. Regardless, the links are intact still when I tried to view them.
