DWG file size is large, but has very little content

The attached drawing is huge for what data is actually in it. I have tried purging, auditing, removing all blocks, the hide command, and filters (although I couldn't find any). I have copied it to a new file, which has made the file size a lot smaller, but for my own sanity i want to see if there is another way to solve the problem, as I have quite a lot of drawings that seem to have the same thing happening. I think the drawing was produced in LT2000i, I am using LT2007.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Can I tell you why? No, but I can say that one of the surest ways to reduce a file size in a drawing like this is to wblock it and insert it into a new drawing. I don't know why, but I know that is always recommended when a drawing size is unexplainably large.

thanks for the response, I think I am just going to have to do that with all the drawings, as I am completely out of ideas for fixing them.

BTW, I used the list command, and selected all, and there seemed to be a lot of MTexts outside of the drawing limits, but they are unviewable, and QText doesn't bring them up. They are on lots of different layers, so I can't even clear the layers. think it may be these that are causing the problem in the drawing. But i still have no idea how to get rid of them!!

Did you REGEN after setting Qtext to ON ?

Yep! deleting the 48698 Null Text Entities from 1067_015D_ISS05.dwg should make a difference on the DWG file size.

Run the ._SELECT command, select all, and you get 49027 found.

Run the ._SELECT command again, window the visible objects and you get 325 found

To fix: Run the ._ERASE command, select all, then remove the visible objects by a crossing or window selection.

Drawing size will drop to ±160k

rkmcswain is right, I have used this for years. The only problem I have run into is purging layers that have nothing on them. Best thing for that is to use select all, copy & start a drawing. Never fails.

I did a left to right crossing window, CTRL+X, erase, enter, all, enter, CTRL+V, "0,0", enter, qsave, enter.

Now the file size is 197kb
