Default Revit PDF Writer 4.2 Installation Problem

I cannot get this pdf writer to install on my machine. 25 other computers in the office work fine, but this is what I get:

    1. Install using the downloaded exe file.
    2. Get error saying that it is already installed (it does not show up in the printer listings.)
    3. Go to control panel, remove programs, and sure enough it shows up there.
    4. Remove it, get the error saying it cannot be found, but it deletes something anyway.
    5. Try installing again, get error saying driver could not be installed but the operation completed succesfully, click ok, get error saying installation must be aborted.
    6. Go back to step 3.

So in a nutshell, I can't add this one printer driver to my system and I don't know why. My IT person has no idea and it's not high on his list of priorities, and like I said this is the only computer that does this. It would seem the problem lies with something outside of Revit. Using Windows XP Pro, but I don't know much about the inner workings of it.

Anyone ever experience a similar problem?

Happened to me recently as well on a XP Home version OS. After I removed the application through Add/Remove Programs I shut down the computer and did a "Hard" reboot...meaning I turned off the power completely, not a "Shut down>restart". When powered back up, the pdf writer installed correctly. Also make sure you are logged in with admin permissions. Good Luck!

I've tried soft and hard boots before and after installation, logged on as administrator, no dice. I'm at a loss.

Thought I could be clever and share the pdf writer from another machine.

Nope. It looked like it was working, but it didn't.

One more thought, open the Printers folder, then choose FILE>SERVER PROPERTIES...see if the Revit pdf driver is in the list. If is is, remove it, reboot and try again.

It was. I deleted it, rebooted, same result.

I was hoping to avoid using Acrobat, but it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and set that up again.

    I appreciate the suggestions Steve.

I know this isn't an Adobe forum, but I have been using Acrobat 6, and all is well except I get a very light grey tone background to every document I create using Acrobat. The problem doesn't occur when using DWF writer. The tone is light enough that I don't see it on screen, but when the pdf is printed the tone shows up within the printable area (whether out of house at a reprographics place, on my plotter, or on my desktop laser and inkjet printers).

I posted this question on the Adobe forum, but not response. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have similar problem and was told by support that it was a registry problem. I have not had the guts to delve so am awaiting delivery of new notebook.
