Starting Out

I am starting out with Revit building. We are a structural engineering company but have Revit 9.1 building. Revit structure wasn't out in the UK when we purchased it.

I have worked through the tutorials but am still having problems. I find it hard to find time to practice on Revit while being busy doing active projects on Acad 2007.

Therefore I have started an active project on Revit to try and get up to speed.

I have some basic problems, I don't know how to create a curved beam, and I have found the In place family tutorial not very helpful.

I would also like some steel hangers to fix to u/s of beams, currently I am offsetting from the top of steel datum.

I appreciate these are basic questions so my real question is........Can someone recommend a good tutorial book for me that addresses problems like these.

You need to give it more than an hour.

I really do not think there are any Tutorial Books as such. There is a new video tutorial available from CDV Systems (http://www.cdvsystems.com/courseware.php) that covers family creation. You will get lots of help here, never worry about that. It is a good idea though to to some searching on a topic that you are having with before posting. "Curved Beam" for instance turns up several threads that may be of interest.

You might also want to post this on one of the Revit Structure Support forums (this forum is great but you run the risk of having a bunch of architects ganging up on you).

I just cant get to grips with this.
I am impatient and that doesn't help, but how difficult can it be to place a UB, curved, on plan.
I am finding the conversion from ACAD 2007 to Revit extremely difficult. The tutorials tell you how to things but dont explain why you are doing them, therefore it's difficult to relate into actual projects.
I have managed to complete the coulmn grid and beam layout of a fairly difficult structure but I still find Revit rather frustrating.
I am also aware that I am not commiting enough time to Revit.
I feel like I'm the old dog that cant learn the new tricks and I am frustrated.
I remember being a young lad just opening up Acad R8 or so and running with it. Not so with this.
I should really put in the hours!

I am in a similar boat, but have been using Revit a bit longer - It gets better, trust me!

Once you get the hang of families (which I still havent done) things will seem much simpler
