    Default tagging upon insertion

    is there a way to tun off the tagging option when inserting something like a door? I am doing prelim plans and dont want tags yet (i know i could turn them off).

    Just before you place your door look at your options bar. you will see a checkbox that says "Tag on Placement". you want to deselect this box. the same will hold true for windows.

    note that this box will stay unchecked until you check it again.

    But is there a way to have 'tag on placement' OFF by default. It does not save thru a template. It always comes back on.

    Nope. You just have to remember to uncheck it.

    You would think something like that might have a line in the INI file somewhere....

    I know the "Chain" checkbox for lines and walls has an entry in the INI file that is updated every time you close Revit.

    If you create your template with no door tags or windows tags loaded (got to the project browser > Annotation symbols and delete them on your template), then they won't be automatically placed (even if the check box to automatically do it is checked). You can load the tags only when you want to insert them.
