Default HOW TO HIP THE RAKE END OF A GABLE ROOF

    1. I need to model a hipped end to a gable roof. Help. I used roof footprint
    to make the roofs.

    2. The lower roof section I can not get to attach to the roof.

    3. I want to terminate the eave end of a roof into an addition.

I have enclosed a photo of what I want as well as where I am at in a Revit
    model.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Go to into your roof sketch and find the middle of the line the forms your gable and draw a ref. line, then split the line that forms the gable side into 3 parts. Make sure your middle line is the same length on both sides(see attached I've pulled the lines apart so you can see the smaller middle line.) but these lines ends need to be connected . The middle line is what will create your hip. Give it slope and then you'll need to give it an offset inside it's properties. From there you'll have to play with the offset to get the look you want. Hope this helps.

Simply select the roof line and in the properties and add a value to Plate offset from base

    Resi-
    You'll also find this covered in the Help file, under roofs. I'm actually having to do this right now on a model. Daniel is quite right for #1;

    1. Make your roof by selecting walls as normal
    2. Select the line for the dutch hip - make sure it is set for slope defining
    3. With the line selected (red), hit the Properties button.
    4. Plate Offset from Base: should be about 4'-0" - 5'-0" (you'll need to adjust as necessary)
    5. (you can also place a slope defining line to do this, but this is the 'simpler' route)
    Item #2;
    1. Make sure this is a separate roof than your first one.
    2. Use the same walls to make your gable'd roof.
    3. Use the same plate heights, etc.
    4. Check and make sure that for both roofs, you've selected 'Extend into Core" - if not, this will provide enough of an offset for the roofs not to 'see' each other.
    5. Because these are 'in-plane' - don't extend one into the other, instead, use Jon Geometry to make them behave.
    Item #3;
I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at, as the picture (and the explanation) is a bit small. It appears that you're wanting to stop the side gable's eave at the fascia line of the roof coming in from the rear.
    1. Your roof/fascia is extending down because your line that defines that slope is 'down' that far.
    2. You can either split the line and pull that section back to be in line (with a higher plate height/offset, or...
    3. Use the Opening Tool to cut the roof back to that area/remove the 'offending portion. Use reference planes to help guide you, then delete.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks Devin, Daniel and most of all Kyle for the help and quick response.

You can see the result from your tutorial (I used opening tool for # 3) and
the roofs were slightly out of line for # 2 and the cut per Devin and Daniel
and Kevins direction to plate height did the trick for # 1. See the result.

While we are on a roll, this house has a sloped wall entry and a sloped
wall dormer. Any ideas of how to achieve that result. See attached photos.

Thanks, Once again Augi is the place to be to get answers from fellow
    Augi-ites when in a jam.

For the slope wall i use a mass then apply he wall to it.
    Keep up the good work

    Dan,

Thanks for the encouragement. The massing did the trick for the walls
It really did not do well on this dormer modeling the complex roof which
is a trapezoid at face and a rectangle at the rear. So I kept it as a
massing for the client. It would be cool to get it to work for that
element as well, but when I assigned the blended form tops and
sides as roof and the front face as wall, it did not look right at all.

Since this element will be completely revised in the remodel, I can
live with it merely being a massing element.

If you have thoughts on what I did not do correctly, great. Otherwise
I really appreciate your help on getting me over the hump on roofs.

    Thanks again.

For you're gable roof try Roof By Extrusion, See if that works for you.

    Devin,

I tried the extrusion but I had trouble with it. The issue was that
the dormer roof is like an extreme dutch gable in that the sides
and have one pitch and the flat shed like roof has another pitch.

The main roof the dormer sits on is at 51 degree pitch and the
sides of the dormer are likewise also @ the 51 degrees. The dormer
front wall is 5' max tall and I did not get a good read of the pitch
from my photos (from the front the dormer roof intercepts the
main roof at approx the 60% mark).

The main roof overhangs are 12" and the building is 30 foot deep.

I could not make that happen. Any thoughts?

Sorry I didn't realize the gable roof had that extreme pitch to it. Let me try and play with it to. It might take me a few days though. I'd also keep trying to do a Mass.
