    Default Area of Multiple Objects - Tip

    I just saw the request for obtaining areas of multiple objects by BASAM YOUSIF on the current Wish List ballot. Until that wish is granted, here's a tip:

    Convert your multiple closed polylines to regions using the REGION command.
    Combine your multiple regions into a single region by using either the UNION command to add or the SUBTRACT command to subtract.

    Use the LIST command to view the resulting total area.

    Finally: If you want to "see" your area, use the RENDER command as a visualization tool.

    As a bonus, this even works in LT.

    If you are just adding areas, and you have converted them to regions, you can use the MASSPROP command to get the total area of any selected regions.

    :Cheers:

    That is a good tip. I still think there is some magic to the wishlist request.
    What if you did not have to convert objects to regions? Streamline, streamiline, streamline.

    In addition, you can quickly create regions as if you were creating a hatch. There's no need to pick every corner of the room in making a polyline then converting it to region. Provided the area is close or with a tolerable gap, this can be done by boundary command with a region object type. Although in new releases, a hatch object does have an area property, but unlike regions you can not merge or combine hatches to determine the total area.

    Here's the macro
    ^C^C-boundary;a;o;r;i;n;;;
    All you need to do is to paste this to a toolbar, menu or a keyboard shortcut's macro.

    Please explain why I can't use hatches for multiple areas. I have been using the cumulative area in properties for areas for several years now and found it more accurate than polylines with multiple vertices.

    The same, i usually use hatch objects then see Total Area of Hatch by Properties Pallette (Cumulative Area)
