Stop Mtext editor window from rotating when vertical Mtext is selected?

I was wondering if there is a variable or something that will keep my mtext editor horizontal even when I select text that is vertical.

Set MTEXTED to "OLDEDITOR" is one way.

This has been updated in AutoCAD 2007; however, if using an older version, RK's post covers it.
