Creating intelligent annotations

I really would like to create annotations that display the values of certain parameters I created in the family. As a simplified example, if I create a line and add a length parameter to it, I would like to be able to create an annotation that displays the length (in this case) of the line. Is there a way to do it?

I would be interested in this as well. My example, when I tag a beam I would like to show the geometry offset from level elevation in brackets. As of now I add an text note and since I am RS spoiled, I want RS to do that for me too!

Jennifer, this is now possible in RS4. Edit your framing tag and add a label which leverages the geometry offset parameter. I'd still like to see a prefix and suffix parameter for the labels to make the bracket placement more flexible.

This is possible through "Shared Parameters"

in your line family, add a parameter and select "shared parameter" (you may need to create a shared parameter file, which you can do in the "select..." dialog). Make this an instance property of your line family.

Now when you create a new generic annotation and add a label, this parameter will be available for reporting in the tag.

I've attached a sample Revit file for you to look at. select the line family and edit it to look at the parameters, do the same to the tag family.
