Angry Missing Shape Files / Select Shape File

When I insert a block, autocad asks me to select a shape file? Why does it do this and how can I make it stop?

I also get a similar message when I open certain dwg.s asking to select a certain font.

I have a feeling these are etransmit related.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi

You are missing a required Shape file(s) OR it is not in the AutoCAD Search Path.

If you are actually missing the Shape file(s), is it possible to obtain them from the source of the original DWG file(s).

If you have the Shape file(s), make sure they are stored somewhere within the AutoCAD Search Path.

    Have a good one, Mike

    Hi

    What do you mean ?

Without access to the correct Shape file(s) the DWG file(s) are incomplete.

It is possible to remove the Shape file(s) associated with DWG file(s), but by doing so you remove information from the DWG file(s).

    Have a good one, Mike

    Thanks,

    Hi

Did someone send_ you / supply_you_with the DWG file(s) ?

If yes, try speaking with them first... they should be able to supply you with the missing Shape file(s).

If no, where did the DWG file(s) originate from that contain the missing Shape file(s) ?

Have you tried searching your local / network drives for the missing Shape file(s) ?

    Have a good one, Mike

    Take a look at: http://rkmcswain.blogspot.com/2006/0...hape-file.html

Note that shape files and font files share the SHX extension, but they are different and cannot be used for one another. So a prompt for a SHAPE file is something different than a prompt for a FONT file.

    Not necessarily.

Just because a shape file is loaded in a drawing doesn't necessarily mean that shape is used in the drawing.

A person opening such drawing would be prompted for the shape file regardless of whether there are any shapes actually in use or not.
