Default Translucent / Transparent Layers *

Here is one that I remembered from the old forum.

I think it would be nice to able to have a layer that contains a solid hatch over an image, and see through the hatch. Basically highlighting an area of an image. This would be great for presentation work.

Definitely a wish list item for me, too. It would sure beat using a dot pattern over the image, like we have to do now.

Instead of a layer scheme, why not do that modification directly in the hatch dialog box, where you could have an option for a level of transparency on a solid hatch?

Yes, we definitely need a transparent solid HATCH option. It could work like the "gradient" option, but the slide bar adjuster could control the degree of transparency (sort of like the fill transparency option in Power Point).

I have several color map images brought in from other applications, and definitely need to highlight areas without covering up the map data altogether.

That would work. But if is part of the layers properties, that would give it more flexibility. You could make any object transparent, not just hatches.

I would love to have the ability to overlay several transparent hatches representing different development constraints. Then we could more easily identify what areas are not acceptable because they would show up much darker. Thus the lightly shaded areas would be more optimal. This can be done is some GIS packages, but not AutoCAD or Autodesk MapGuide.

We use PC3 files for plotting. In the PC3 file we set merge control to "lines merge". Doesn't this accomplish what you are looking for?

If your are dealing with linework. This would be more for when you have a solid hatch over an image, and you want to see through the solid and see the image. Basically like highlighting an area in the image.

I'm looking for a way to have translucent entities over a jpeg. I don't want the text and leaders to be seen through, but the hatch or plines. But I'm using ACAD2k4.
