    Default Civil 3D or LDT?

I'm looking to brush up on LDD so I called the local autodesk retailer about training. Unfortunately, I do not have $3000 so I requested a 30 day demo and I'll pick up an LDD manual at chapters. But the retailer is certain that I need Civil 3D 2007 and I was under the impression that LDD was being replaced by it. So why is there a 2007 version of LDD?

All I'm doing is highway design.

    Any suggestions?

LDT 2007 is the same software as LDT 2006, but with all the new features of AutoCAD 2007.

From my understanding, LDT is not going to have new releases, but is included in the purchase of C3D. Eventually, I imagine, LDT will become obsolete. Right now, I find LDT immensely more functional for Survey purposes. Civil 3D is, IMO, better for highway design. You will be able to see the changes in real time as you design the roadway.

So, for your purposes, I would recommend getting Civil 3D, because you will also get LDT with it.

I second that motion. Get C3D and you'll get the whole package. I also got notice that they are now including Civil Design in the same package rather than selling it separate as in the past.

I agree with the others get the C3D, but do your self a favor and get the training to go along with it.

I second NickB's suggestion about training. In fact if you go to the Autodesk University Online site there are 12 (or was it 13?) webcasts from the Civil 3D Power Track courses which was offered there. They will give you some really good insight as to how powerful the software is.
