    Default New Simpson Family

I created this generic model family complete with flexible detail components to show up from diff. views. I tried a workplane based family, then without. I can't seem to get it to behave correctly. Maybe someone would have a suggestion whether or not a generic model was the best thing to create this from. I would like the detail component on the ref. level to show up in plan view, but for some reason, it was not showing up in my roof plan like it was suppose to. i don't know, check it out. hope it's useful for someone. The detail components in that family are fine though.

I guess you forgot the attachment

You want the detail component to show in a roof plan? How is that representation correct? Anyway, if you do, then you need to set the visibility of the detail component so that it show even when the family is not cut.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahah! Very Clever!! Man, sounds like it's premium blend in the forums today huh!!??

Sorry. Here it is. It seems to be working good now. I just wanted the the hardware to show up in plan view so you could see a piece of hardware there, but after messing with it for a while, I think I'll add another set of symbolic lines in there in the shape of an L to represent the hardware in plan view, for course and medium detail settings. I was having troubles before placing this component where I needed it. But i made it a work plane based family and had good luck placing it on my structural members in 3d, then aligning them to my wall in roof plan. I did this because my whole roof structure is a warped panelized roof system, so I couldn't choose the correct work plane in any other view, or at least I couldn't.

Anyway, hope you guys may find this useful. Check it out.\

    Hey,

Can someone give me some help with this family. I am trying to use it in a project field set we are going to be doing tomorrow. I put some symbolic lines in the family for plan representation and all 3d geometry is set to only show in 3d. when I place the component in my roof plan, which is structural, and yes I tried switching discipline, I can't see the symbolic lines, but you can see the outline of the 3d geometry, even though it is set not to show. My cut plane is above my structure and my roof and my bottom view depth is set below the roof plane. I tried placing this in the first floor and everything showed up fine. Am I doing something wrong with my view range or what?!

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your family is rotated slighty, Revit does not show the 2D symbology made with symbolic lines. So if it's placed in a situation where the view you're looking at is not parallel to the view where you placed your symbolic lines, you will only see the 3D geometry.

I just realized that the item I was placing this component on was a structural member and this sturctural member was sloped, or not parallel to the views reference plane. This whole roof structure is warped, so no surface is able to be parallel to any work plane. Is there any way to get the symbolic lines to show up without having this component parallel to my views work plane, or am I s.o.l.?!
    thanks.

    Josh

Edit: Thanks for replying. Yes, like I said here, it is not parallel to my work plane. I went back into the family and drew some model lines, and as long as it is above my roof, the lines will show. But I cannot figure out why the 3d geometry is still showing. I only want those model lines to show. Can I do that??

Also, could using a generic annotation with some line work, nested into this family be my solution to the symbolic linework?? Thanks again.
