Default How to change family host

I’ve downloaded a solartube from the RUGI site that will be ideal for a project I’m currently working on.

However, rather than placing the solartube in a roof, I wish to put it in the top of a tunnel. The ‘roof’ of the tunnel has been created using a conc ‘floor’ slab, and therefore will not host the solartube. I should add that above the tunnel ‘roof’ slab I have a layer of earth and then the garden yard, created as another ‘floor’ structure. (In summary, from top down; I have a ‘floor’ (paved yard) with earth (actually a void, no material specified) and another ‘floor’ (tunnel roof).

Any ideas on how to place the solartube in the tunnel ‘roof’?

In the solartube roof hosted family file, copy the solartube (without its roof host) and paste that into a generic floor hosted family template.

That should then work for your tunnel floor.

If the tunnel has been created through a in-place family, ie: floor family, change it to a roof family in the family category & parameters under settings...

If not then you'll have to do the copy and paste method with the elements of the family.

Thanks AUGI for this forum (and of course to Mr. Zoog for showing the way).

I spent 1.5 hours last night trying to sort this out, posted my problem and went to bed.

Next morning there are 2 solutions for me, and it's all sorted by the time it takes the kettle to boil.

    Thanks beegee & Mr. Spot.

Is there a way to make a family generically hosted.

I would like to take the duplex outlet block and change it so that I can place it onto curtain walls and millwork (kitchen cabinets, etc.). I made a generic duplex which can go anywhere but doesn't stick so it doesn't move with stuff.

    Thanks,

There is an option to have the element "move with nearby objects" if you select it to do so...
