Uh... pdfs are nearly useless if you need the cad files on record. Happy Holidays

    Isn't very colabrative.
Either way, you'd have me on the phone looking for DWGs.

My question is, "How many follow the NCS?".
    (That's why it's there)

Since the NCS is fairly new, probably not enough are adopting it. I'm not sure how many companies are going to adopt a standard they first have to pay for and then implement.
If you have a technical question, please find the appropriate forum and ask it there.

I wouldn't know a thing about it. We are AIA based here.

Am I mistaken believing "AIA based" is NCS or should be NCS based?

I joined the NCS 4 project committee and am implementing "our version" that is conformant to the theme, but not fully compliant.

I'm not fully opposed to buying standards, but I would like to get a disk that included DWT, DWS, LIN, PATT, STB, and CTB files. All possible layers that are predefined in the DWT linked to the DWS; plot set to go. Then the PDF that you get now would cover "the madness behind the method" and explain how to modify to conform with your specific discipline and still be understood. How would a Hot Tub company or a high-end Audio/Visual company collaborate with a the Archies on a new home build in the current version?
NCS is a good direction, but in the end I'd advise to create a standard that follows the intent and still fits the company specific needs. Give it a few years. NCS, or something like it, will be the future.

My standards are loosly based on the AIA 2.0 standards. NCS wasn't around at the time or I would have probably bought into it back then. Purchasing a PDF showing standards doesn't make my job any easier. Until they can provide a better solution, I'll continue to use what I have.

lol... depends on your client (read: their contract).

I am the client. ~waving~ Well, not the client referred to by the OP, but, one who employs a lot of constultants/contractors, etc. I do have a CAD Standard which consists of the AIA layering standards and a 10 page document outlining Quality Control. I don't dictate blocks, including symbols or titleblocks, other than that they be bylayer, not held by someone's copyright, etc. I don't want to make things hard, just somewhat consistent so that I may reuse the bits I need throughout the life of my facility.

Some people handle it better than others. I know my standards aren't hard to follow (if you're using basic good drafting practices, like using OSNAPS, and not snapping to anything in a Z elevation, etc) and have had some companies turn over rather large projects in a very short amount of time.

I'd have to say that the vast majority of my contractors design and review according to their standards, and then at project close-out, run LayTrans and ExportToAutoCAD (when applicable for the ADT users) and purge in a batch script or something, and we're good to go.

Once we get past the big roadblock of 'I don't want to follow your standards because that's not how I do it', things tend to go very smoothly.

I wish all you contractors clients as laid-back as myself.
