Default Importing shape data to map2004

Can someone give a quick how to
While importing shp files, I would like to have text from the attribute data posted at the same time. ie import a map of a state and have the Township, Range and section text posted on the centroid.

First attach the data source to which those shape files are attached,
then import the shape file, and close or save the file.
Then you should be able to attach that file to a new mapping session
perform a query with alter properties enabled, and select TEXT,
have it read from the attached database, and by default the labels will be placed at the centroid of each shape.
