Default Place Doors/Windows within In-Place Family Categories

Why is it that when I create an in-place family, and assign it the category, "walls," I cannot place doors in the family?

Using version 9.0 or earlier? You could only place them in a 3D view until 9.1...try a 3D view till you upgrade.
