    Default Property Set Definitions

I'm trying to learn the ins and outs of property set definitions. I understand property data, but am not entirely sure of some examples of more complex info. Are you using it? If so, how and why?

Thanks for shedding some light on my pea brain!

Property Sets are essential for using schedules since most of the data that appears in the door or space schedules, for example, is contained in the property sets. I use these two schedules with one of my large corporate clients all the time. Ironically I haven't needed to use window or room scheduling so I haven't a clue how that works.

    For what it's worth.

Property sets in essence provide the framework for extracting data from objects and or styles. They are the rules behind what gets reported and in what fashion the data is formatted.

Check out the Brain Dumps Section on Rob Starz' site. will take you to the particular brain dump about Property Sets and Data.

In addition to the information on Rob's site, you can go to the following URL:

    http://home.earthlink.net/~ccyanchar...braindumps.htm

and get a tutorial on creating a simple schedule that walks you through the process from start to finish. It's a bit dated, as it was written for ADT R2, but the concepts are the same and it will work in the current version. It just doesn't take into account style-based property sets and all the new more powerful automatic properties.

If you're going to Autodesk University this year, both Paul Aubin and I are doing sessions on tutorials (I THINK Paul is doing one, anyway...) His is a 90 minute overview session, mine will be 3.5 hours and will go into the topic in depth.

Thanks for the info. I actually did a search on property sets before this post and downloaded both items recommended. I've found the brain dumps helpful in the past.

Hoping to make AU this year, but since I'm no longer with the AUGI Board it will be up to my employer. I was thinking of teaching to pay part of my way, but chickened out. (Teach small groups, but was a little scared of such a big group.) I'll certainly register for those sessions if there.

    Thanks for all the tips!
