    Default Save-to-Central taking Hours!!!!!

I am currently experiencing severe problems with saving to the central file.
At first it took 30-40 minutes now it takes hours and I leave my computer running overnight only to be presented in the morning with an error to unjoin a wall etc. then another hour or so it tells my I must RELOAD LATEST and try again.
In the end I created a New Central File but this eventually starts to behave in the same way.

I have compressed the file while saving to central on occasion and the file is about 50MB (not that large for RS4).

I have got our IT guys to check the hardware and network and there is nothing wrong.
My computer has all the necessary spec for Revit structure 4.

It is now causing a severe blockage where I must be absolutely sure that I want to save to central and go for a very long lunch.

Saving to the local file is relatively OK.

I know RS5 will improve the speed in general but that doesn't help me now.

Can anyone give any advice on how to rectify this.

    Cheers

Yep, that'll happen. I haven't had it take hours, but 10-15 min over a 100mb line. We did notice improvements on the workstation areas that were upgraded to a gigabyte line. Before saving to Central, close extra open windows, get out of worksets. This should help a little. If you can purge all un-used families, that will also help, but be careful of what you get rid off, some things you can't get back. PS I don't think RS5 will be any faster, or any less of a memory hog.

    Hi,
Something sounds terribly wrong here Terry. It should not take that long to save to central. I have never had that happen. You might consider sending the file to support and have them take a look.
How long does it take to save locally? If it is not slow think about dumping the central file and re-saving the local file as a central file. Maybe that would help.

Thumbs up Re: Save-to-Central taking Hours!!!!!

    Hi,

I have sent the central file to Support together with all the Techno info & journal files.

In the meantime, I have had help from the Architect Revit Building guys on the same project. They suggested I create another new central file and use an optimize.txt file.

I tried it and things are a lot better. Now it takes a minute to save to central. What a relief.
Missed my deadline though but have learnt something new.

What worries me is this is not mentioned in the revit help.......unless I've missed it.
If I have missed it, perhaps someone could direct me to it.
Please could Autodesk add this somewhere....perhaps a tutorial.

    Cheers

    Terry,
Is the optimize.txt file an option when you save to central? I'm wondering where I should look for this.
    Thanks

    Dave,

The Architect Revit Building guys gave me the optimize.txt file.

This has been very useful and I was wondering when will it be incorporated in the actual software.

    Hi Terry,

Any Idea where they got it from? I'm just wondering where they found it.

I'm not sure they got it from, but it's damned useful and Autodesk should publish it with a procedure or add it to the software.

If anyone needs this optimize.txt file I would suggest they enquire at AutoDESK themselves.

Terry, was this done via a support request or through a vendor? I'm just wondering where to start looking.

    Thanks
