    Default Numbering of Details/Views

Views dragged to a sheet will automatically number themselves.
The first view/detail dragged to any sheet will be numbered 1 even if there are other detail 1 's on other sheets.
Can I set Revit (9.1) to create detail numbers starting at 1 and continuing in sequence i.e. 1 -> 40 ?
I don't really want to have multiple details all called detail 1, as builders can get confused. I know I can renumber them manually but I thought Revit would automate this for me. Possibly I have missed some global setting somewhere?

    Thanks

No, you would have to do this manually. The reason for this is that the detail, wherever it is referenced from, would be referenced as Dtl 1/S-101, Dtl 1/S-201. I don't see much to get confused by. As a builder, this has never been an issue with myself. The sheet is the variable there. On that note, I sure wish there was an easier way to change the numbers on the views placed onto a sheet. I always just end up grabbing all the views I can fit onto it's appropriate sheet, arrage them so they fit nicely, then I always have to go back and change a bunch of numbers. I find it a little too time consuming.

Sorry it is not an option to have Revit manage them this way. Each detail is unique because of the sheet it belongs to. On big projects detail numbers might get pretty large though?

Idea : How about temporarily switching out the view titles with ones with a giant detail number? Then you could renumber by clicking on the numbers but not have to zoom in.

truevis: That's a great idea! Renumbering always takes a while. This'll make the task easier.

This may not help, but I've noticed it's a little bit faster to change the Detail Number from the properties of the view instead of double clicking on the view. Maybe it's a hardware thing with my computer, but it seems to take longer to regenerate when I double click and change the number as opposed to open the properties of the view and changing the number there.

truevis, that is a fantastic idea!! I'm going to implement that right away! Aside from having a better way to change the number, it's a p.i.t.a. because it's small and you have to zoom in. This would make life a little easier. Thanks for the idea!
