AutoCAD 2007 (version Revit 9.1 ARS) is very slow to open

Hello all,
I hope I am posting this in the correct forum for starters. (I'm posting here 'cos it's not strictly a vanilla AutoCAD problem, feel free to move this, as necessary) Here is a rough translation of a thread over on the French forum.

French member in distress !
The first error message reads something like « Could not load profile file. The information saved during the previous session could not be restored.” Briefly, AutoCad takes 20 minutes to open, then even if he just closes the default drawing another 15 minutes before he can do anything. He has uninstalled Autocad, cleaned the register, then reloaded (no request for licence?) did not resolved the issue.
The second dialogue box reads “A new serial number has been detected for your product. Click on OK to allow the application to verify and initialize the new serial number.”
After restarting lots of times it’s still as slow as ever. He has in his efforts tried to erase the “profiles” and reload the default profiles, no joy.
All other software on his computer is working normally.

Now he would like help/advice on how he can start from scratch with the reinstallation.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

After removing AutoCad he can no longer reinstall as the program says Autocad is already installed on his computer. The poor guy's getting desperate so;
Any ideas about how he can now reinstall from scratch are very welcome. Thanks

he can no longer reinstall as the program says Autocad is already installed on his computer.

May be he manually needs to remove AutoCAD 2007 entries from the registry and try again.

Yeah he's tried that and now it won't let him reinstall, as there must be some legacy bits and pieces left on the machine. Is there a way to recover this without doing a low level format?

You may get an idea of clean reinstallation from this or this Autodesk link. That's not for AutoCAD, but it should be something similar for AutoCAD, I think.

He has managed to sort it, by formatting the hard disk.

Reinstalled correctly now; see here for French post. It would seem the problem was not with the AutoCad software, but rather with far too much stuff on his hard-drive. He thinks a program for doing a quick clean out of all legacy stuff after uninstalling programs would be helpful.

This thread over on the Autodesk discussion group may shed some light on what has gone wrong.
