What's Your Email Solution?

Ok. I'm looking for a new email client. I currently use MS Outlook 2003, but the footprint it (and Word) leaves on my ram is sickening (about 74 Meg). I've tried using Thunderbird before, and it just doesn't do it for me. What do you folks think? Here is my list of requirements:

• IMAP email access
• Low memory footprint
• Able to compose "rich text" email
• Simple, straight-forward folder organization for multiple email accounts (without jumping through hoops)
• Comprehensive contact organization including contact numbers, addresses, etc.
• Did I mention low memory footprint?
• Works in Win XP

Don't know much about the subject matter as I've not had a need or opportunity to look into different email software...but I've heard of some folks using Eudora. It's slated to go open-source in a couple months.

i used eudora in school for a while before they moved to a web based access and really liked it, but that was 8 years ago so i have no idea how its changed.

Thanks to all the response already. Don't worry madcadder, most people look at me like I'm crazy when I say I don't like tbird.
I can't remember using Eudora since 1995 or something... It may be worth a look into. Thanks!

If you don't like Outlook, Eudora, or Thunderbird, you might try Pegasus Mail:

It was originally developed for use on NetWare servers, but I believe it also handles IMAP. It's no longer being updated, but I have tried it (with a Cyrus IMAP server) and it works.

If you don't like Outlook, Eudora, or Thunderbird, you might try Pegasus Mail.

Pegasus mail is like an old friend. I remember using pegasus when
Netscape Naviagator/Communicator was the next best web browsing tool.
Brings back fond memories of when I was first learning the power of email.

At first, I didn't like Thunderbird, but it is a lot safer and less intrusive than the Outlook and OE packages. After the latest updates, and the Sunbird calender addon, I've grown rather accustumed to it.

The feature I'm still missing is the ability to drag a folder or selected email messages out of Tbird to the filesystem for archiving to CD with the job.

If you want a handy, simple mail program, and are willing to leave Windows, the the BE Mail Daemon works great - but you'll either be rebooting to get back into CAD, or running BeOS in VMWare
