Starting and Ending dashes in Custom Linetype increase in length

I have created a custom linetype which features a hidden line with text in it (- - - - ST - - - -); however, when creating linework with this linetype, AutoCAD makes the first and last dash of each line segment really long (--- - - ST - - ---), instead of a consistent dash length throughout the whole line.

Is there some sort of system variable or command to fix this issue, or am I missing something in my linetype definition code?

You have a small dash line on each end of your linetype. I think what it is doing is it takes each of those dashes and puts them together to make a long dash. What you need to do is when selecting objects to create linetype dont pick on of the dashes on the end. I always have to do trial and error because I dont make linetypes very often.
