Switch from Modelspace to Paperspace causes Viewport to Zoom Extents?

Why does sometimes when you try to switch to model space when you're in paperspace, you're viewport's view zooms extents of the drawing? I was on paper space and I typed in ms for modelspace and the view automatically zooms extents of the whole drawing. and when I type ps, i lose the viewports scale. It doesn't do this when i lock the viewport though.

the ucsfollow is set to 0
