    Smile How to Use Images As Materials

    Hi.

    First off, can you use jpegs/gifs as materials to attach as textures on objects in Viz?

    If you can, can someone please tell me how? I've made a picture frame in autocad and have imported it to Viz for rendering. i want to attach a picture in it.

    Or can someone please tell me how to do it in autocad instead? If it will be easier. Thanks!

    You can use mapping inside AutoCAD.
    View --> Render --> Mapping

    You'll get better results doing it through VIZ than AutoCAD. By using UV mapping, you can set any bitmap as a texture. I say use UV mapping because it gives you a bit more flexibility than mapping it through your diffuse channel.

    For specifics on how to do that, I'll refer you to the Help section of VIZ; they'll do a much better job of describing the steps than I would (especially since I"m using Max).

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Viz and Max are pretty much the same, and the process of applying materials and adding JPGs to materials is the same.

    I don't quite know what you mean Stusic, by using UV mapping instead of Diffuse. I always understood it that you create your material through your material editor, adding the image to your diffuse channel.

    You apply your material to your objects, but you need to apply the UVW mapping modifier to the object. This way you can manipulate the size and orientation of your material on the object, and so your material can take on different settings for different objects.

    For rostxandxash's question, I would create a material, adding the image to the Diffuse channel. the picture object would just need to be a plane. Apply a UVW Map modifier, also set to plane, so that it matches the object, and then apply the material.

    Yep, I read my post and it didn't make any sense. I was ineffectively trying to advise they use the UV mapping modifier, and not just putting a bitmap in the diffuse channel. Bravo.

    No problem... I became a bit worried there myself, and thought there was something new I didn't know about!
