    Question xref unresolved

I have a drawing that was originally drawn in 2006. It is a floor plan file with an xrefed base plan file. The floor plan file (and consequently the nested base plan file) is xrefed into a sheet file.

    Forward to AutoCad 2007.....
When I open the sheet file...the floor plan file shows up, but the nested base plan file is shown as "unresolved". I have to "reload" the base plan file - and it shows up.

I save and exit the drawing.

Open the same drawing, and the nested base plan file is AGAIN "Unresolved".

There is no path specified to any xref'd files. They are all located in a common folder. It just seems to loose the information everytime I exit and re-open. Any ideas on getting this to "RESOLVE"?

First, are you running AutoCAD or ADT?

Second, you cannot set the path of a nested xref. You need to open the file that contains the nested xref and repath in there. Either that or use Reference Manager to repath all xrefs at once.

    It is ADT

I opened the floor plan file and it has the base plan file in it - it isn't unresolved within this file. It is only unresolved when I open a sheet file that the floor plan is xrefed

It's possible it was deleted instead of unattached. You may need to start at the base level and rebuild your xref chain. Also, what pathing options are you using? Full, relative or none?

Just guessing here and not at all certain it will fix your problem, but you might try opening and saving all of the files in ADT 2007 to bring them all up to the current file format, if you have not already done that.

First, I assuming the base plan is attached within the floor plan and not overlayed. The next thing I would check is what the saved path of your base plan is within the floor plan drawing.

I have had situations before where I have moved drawings from one folder to another and the saved path is still looking at the previous file location. However if the nested drawing is now located in the same folder as the parent drawing the nested xref will be found but if you try to xref this drawing into another drawing AutoCAD will look in the saved path for the drawing.

    I hope that makes sense.
