    Question Window Head height

what do i have to do to get the head height of my window to be the same in the project as what it is in the family editor. In the editor there is no problem and the window moves to the correct height when i test it, but once i load it into my project its much higher than what i have it set at in the window properties in the project, for example i would like to set my head height at 2100mm so in the properties box i enter 2100, but the actual head height is at 2243mm, what the ! ! ? ?

Window Head is an Instance Parameter. In other words, each occurance of a window can have a different head height. That's a good thing. Just select all of the windows that you want at a particular head height and click on the Properties button. Set the head height there and they will all pop to the correct head.

Thats just the thing, it wont go to the correct head height when i enter it into the properties box. i think i must have the wrong parameters in the family, it's quite frustrating.
I'm kind of new to the whole family creation thing. any other suggestions?

You should open the family and make sure that there is a Head Height parameter associated to a dimension and that it is attached to the level and the correct location on the window. Sorry, but that's the only thing I can think of that might be wrong.

Aaron - I know this is not ideal - but at this stage the easiest thing to do would be to set your head height at, in the example you gave, 1957mm (2243-2100mm) - that would at least get your head heights right.
The things to look for though are "Trim widths" (or depths) or maybe Frame Widths or anything else in the family which is "factoring up" the head height.

My guess is, in the Fam. Editor, you have labeled a dimension as Head Height.
    If so ... delete it.

If you delete it, what will determine the head height value for an instance in the project?

By -default Revit creates Sill and Head Height parameters for Window Rfa's.

When you create a parameter of your own, controlling the Head Height of the window, most probably you'll get a mixed result on project level like Aaron

I have a family that I created some time ago that does not have a Default Sill Height parameter, and the out-of-the-box Revit window families do not actually contain a "head height" of any kind. I'm not sure if Revit calculates the head height based on the sill height + the Height parameter, or if it just goes from the top of the sill height to the highest point it finds in the family's geometry.

I thought I remembered that the sill height automatically goes to the very lowest point in the geometry, regardless of what you try to do. It's been awhile, so I'm a little rusty on these points, and was hoping that newer versions since then had addressed these issues better, which I know were long-time wishlist items.
