How many styles do you have?

It would depend, mainly, on the number of different tolerances used in a drawing - I have a style for each size range for each tolerance grade.
I don't think I've ever needed more than, say, 20 in any one drawing.

I've got a library of about 25 styles but there's only 3 or 4 I use regularly and I've never needed more than 4-5 in one drawing. Most drawings get done with only one or two.

Try turning off associative dimensioning. DIMASO
You will then have to create a dimension style for each viewport scale that you use.
Also, the dimension will not automatically change when an object is moved. You will have to manually adjust the dimension nodes.
