Does Revitcity not satisfy the family content need, for now? If not, why not? I know Hiroshi would like to hear about it if not.

Since AUGI intends to offer a content exchange, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to "build" yet another repository of data. Perhaps now that the holidays are "behind" us, Jim can exert all his power and influence on the inner workings at AUGI and get things going?

No doubt you have spoken with JB more than I Steve, but when we met in November (?) he gave me the impression that AUGI was very slow moving. That doesn't mean that it might not have moved by now but I don't think that the holidays or anything else have caused a hold-up. That's just the way they are.

Well I'm sure the holidays didn't help, but yes that's my understanding as well.

I'm just saying that if there are objections to using Revitcity as "the" source till then, we might as well find out and see if they can be addressed, because it's set up already and working now as opposed to folks spending time and money to do it "again".

One of the problems with Revitcity is that it takes 4 clicks and an arbitrary ~5 second wait to download each family (or 5 clicks to bypass the wait), starting from the main family folder. I don't like to be tied to the internet, so I frequently download all of the content and use it from my HD. The thought of downloading all of the content from RC is painful...it would take forever, and there is no good way to speed it up. At least with rugi I was able to sort of automate the dl process.

I agree we do not need redundant sites where families are stuffed away. However, during this down time in which no one to my knowledge is capable of providing a timetable of when the exchange at AUGI will be operational, I think even a temp place is needed.

The good thing about useing something like Limewire is that no one really has to do much organization or maintenance. Just share your stuff.

Heck - it would be cool if this sort of function were just a part of the Revit UI. Very much in keeping with the Revit community...

I agree. I would be nice to be able to just point to the families and have them download...like kazaa or limewire. The whole process of having to download each family individually is highly undesireable to me. I did it once on Rugi so I wouldn't have to do it again. I now wish that I had kept it separate...or at least a copy of it. Instead, I merged all of the families into my own folders and even renamed some of them so they were more consistent...as such, just posting them to an ftp site is not really the best option, since there are going to be people that end up with duplicates and don't really know it. We REALLY need augi to get on the ball with the naming conventions and family uploading thing. I realize it is a large task, but I also know there are people willing to help get it going faster.

Perhaps a BitTorrent would be the best way to do this, as it could then be posted directly to this site and all peple would have to do is install the very simple BitTorrent client and then download the torrent. Download speeds would be incredible if we all did it at the same time.

Maybe everyone here who is an AUGI member, can help get the AUGI site goimg. JB, is there anything we as a collective group can do to get things moving?

File sharing has it's limits and may not legitimately cross a firms "door steps" depending on it's rules and regs. Certainly it would be harder to discern what families you really want and make it harder to manage your "stores".

The only "negative" so far is the hierarchical nature of RC's stuff and that it can't be mass downloaded? If that were possible would that make it more palatable? Doesn't sound too hard, what say you Hiroshi?

Let's try to avoid making it even more "mazelike" to find stuff than it is/was.

Well in the interim, I've set up Limewire to share .rfa files. Would someone mind doing a search and see if they show up? Also, it turns out that there's a pc-based wargame [Battlefield 1942 v1.3 Road To Rome -- http://www.planetbattlefield.com/bf4...ry_readme.txt] which names it's files *.rfa as well... Doh!

At any rate, if you set up Limewire to share .rfa's, you'll have to add the particular file extensions in the options menu.
