    Default .DWF Writer. . .

Not sure where this goes, feel free to move it.

    Here's the dealio. . .
I got a .PDF instead of the .DWG I asked for. So in my infinite wisdom, I fired up the new .DWF Writer and made a .DWF out of it so I could insert it into AutoCAD and snap away! Pretty smart, huh? I thought so too! Well, when I got it into AutoCAD it had no intelligence (no snaps). WTF? I thought that's what the whole idea was! Anyone got some advice? Did I miss a setting somewhere? Is my .DWF Writer smarter than me?

DWF writer convert PDF to DWF .
Install correctly the "DWF Writer" Windows driver, display your PDF file in Acrobat Reader and print it to the DWFwriter "printer.
Am I clear in your question?

That's a pretty nice idea, and one way to get a PDF background in Acad. Of course it's a picture of a picture of a drawing, so not being able to snap to vectors that dont' exist makes sense. but it still sounds simpler that buying Acrobat Pro and saving the PDF out to TIFF.

You probably already checked this but make sure DWFOSNAP is set to 1.

The ability to snap to a DWF created from a PDF depends on the PDF file. I plotted a PDF from AutoCAD using Cute PDF, then plotted the PDF to a DWF using Autodesk DWF Writer for 2D. I was able to snap to endpoints of the DWF underlay.

I scanned the same image to a PDF, then plotted to DWF and was not able to snap to the underlay.

Their is a company that makes software - that you can use to convert PDF to DWF
    http://www.autodwg.com/pdf-to-dwg-converter/

If you have adobe illustrator I think you can use that too and do a save as dwf.

Thanks for the info guys. My guess is the .pdf came from a scan.
