Editing Xref via RefEdit command, distorts doors and windows

I have an xrefA inside xrefB. xrefA contains walls, doors and windows.
If I edit the xrefA by opening it, all is good. but if i edit xrefA through xrefB with refedit then once i save, the doors and windows move all over the place.
is there a system variable or a quick fix? or do i just have to edit the xrefA by opening it everytime?

I shy away from doing a REFEDIT on a referenced drawing. Unexpected things happen on the save.

that seems to be what has happened. everytime we save that edit, we end up making more work for ourselves.

we have the same problem with using refedit on our eagle point base drawings, it causes the centerline alignment to loose connectivity to the eagle point data

You could always use the Express Tools "Copy Nested Objects" tool (NCOPY) to copy the items from the XREF; edit the items you need to modify; then open the XREF and copy and paste the modified items into the XREF. It's a little more work than using REFEDIT, but less likely to make a big mess.

Or maybe make use of the ._XOpen command ( if using AutoCAD 2004 or higher )...

Maybe I am missing something here ( most likely )...

1. NCopy.
2. Edit.
3. Open Xref file ( a method was not specified ).
4. Copy & Paste.
5. Save.

OR

1. _.XOpen
2. Edit.
3. Save.

Granted both methods have their own pluses and negatives... pay your money, take your choice.

I love that XOPEN command. it saves me a few steps and i love it when that happens, Thanks for all your comments guys!!
