Modifying font files to add custom characters

Does anyone know how I can either modify font files in order to create my own codes? I have used the Romans font at other companies where the "|" (the symbol above the back slash on the keyboard) inserts the delta symbol. I used this for arc aligned text. If I use the Unicode (U+0394) it does not work along the arc text. Can anyone help with this?

Yes, you can modify acad fonts but it will be much quicker and easier to ask someone at your old company to sent you a copy of theirs.

Of course, be sure the font you receive from them isn't protected by copyright.
