Default Pick Points method in Hatch command results in AutoCAD freezing up

    Hi All,

When I try to hatch using the pick points' method Acad freezes up and sometimes the screen goes white for 5-10 minutes. It only happens when I use the 'pick points' method, not the 'select objects' method. Has anybody encountered this before?

I realize there are similar questions/issues under FAQ but I am unable to find a solution to my particular problem.

    Cheers,

    Paul S.

    Hi

What version of AutoCAD are you using?

Depending on what version, older versions are notoriously susceptible to exhibiting Hatch problems, especially when using "Pick Points" as the hatch boundary selection method..

    Have a good one, Mike

when i face this problem i do one of the following:
    1) Use LAYISO command to minimize objects selection
    2) Redraw a polyline over the hatch boundary and use SELECT method
also using Esc button is better than waiting 5or 10 minutes

Thanks for the response guys, yeah this only ever happens with the pick points method of hatching and nothing else.

Yes, I've discovered the Esc key will stop acad from doing.....................well, whatever it is doing and return everything to normal.

I do draw polylines around areas I want to hatch now, however this can become time consuming depending on the area so that gets a bit frustrating.

Can anyone solve this dilemma? or am I doomed never to pick points again!

    Cheers,

    Paul

is it possible that you have picked a point that is NOT fully contained? I know I've had this happen when picking a point if a pline isn't closed, if line endpoints aren't touching, or if, for some reason, there are overlapping objects that are not on the same Z coordinate. whenever I use pick points, it seems to take a while for the command to move on anyway, therefore I just make sure I pick object & that the object is a closed pline.

I hope that helps a little.

I see that I am not the only one with this hatch issue.

I also get booted from AutoCad after selecting a grip.

    Save often, save often.

Does the BOUNDARY command give you the same delays? If not, use the boundary command to make your hatch boundary, then select it in the hatch dialogue.

The delay IS the boundary command, being quietly called by the hatch command to generate the hatch boundary.
