An attempt was made to access FILENAME.rvt past its end

When trying to open a file that was being worked on last week, we get this error:

An attempt was made to access FILENAME.rvt past its end

Any ideas?

This is typically a sign of a file that has become corrupt. Your best bet is to use the most recent backup file.

We've just had the message - renamed the file, opened it again and it worked!
Still doesn't explain why this message is happening...?
