Default Only snap to Xref's & remove Layers from Xref's without reloading

    1. If I want to insert or attach another drawing to my current and then draw something over it (use attached drawing as background), is it possible to set that OSNAP doesn't work for source drawing's objects, but work for curent drawing objects?
Shall I use some other method than XREF or INSERT dwg to manage this?

    2. Another question - if I use XREFs and delete some layers in source drawing then in reference drawing these layers still exist and I can't delete them, AutoCAD says "cannot delete XREF depenedent layer" or something like this. How can I manage this other way than detaching source drawing and then attaching it again?

    Thanks,
    Janis

Question Re: Only snap to Xref's & remove Layers from Xref's without reloading

    Hi

    1. Not as far as I am aware. Could you not simply, temporarily turn OFF of FREEZE the Layers you do not want to Snap to?

    2. Have you looked at system variable VisRetain?

    Have a good one, Mike

"visretain" has nothing to do with this unless I misunderstand the problem.

Let's say "A" is your parent drawing and "B" is your child drawing. You have "B" xrefed into "A". Are you deleting the layers from "B"? And they still show up in "A"? You don't have to detach and reattach, just use Reload. The next time you open the drawing, the layer will not be present in "A".
