    Default Can't see x-refs

I am using Auto-CAD 2008 and am inserting DWGs as x-refs. However, when they are inserted they do not show up. I have tried all of the common things like making sure the layer is set to not off, not plot or frozen. I believe it is a system variable, but can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do you know they're being inserted?
Is it possible that it's way off in the distance?
After you insert the xref, try zooming to extents.

Is it possible the xref was there at one time and got erased? Sometimes that happens where someone erases an xref instead of detatching it, then the drawing is referencing "nothing" (but still retains the xref definition).

If that's true, try detaching the "nothing" xref, purge the drawing and re insert it.

    Just a couple ideas

Thanks for the advice. I have tried inserting a simple x-ref on a brand new drawing even and it shows that it is attached, but just does not show up on the screen. I believe it is something simple. Thanks again for the help.

As silly as this may sound, it has happened to me before. Check that both drawings (xref and drawing holding xref) are both using the same units. Sometimes if you insert a dwg with inches into a millimeters dwg (or visa versa) it can get lost. Just a thought.

Did you figure it out yet?
Is it possible to upload a small sample of the files your using?
(assuming it's a plot sheet drawing and base drawing)

Sometimes it's just easier to look at it to trouble-shoot.

    PS, I don't have ACAD 2008, I'm running 2006.
If you upload the file higher than '06 I can't open it, but others could check it out.
I'm just thinking its an AutoCAD thing but I may be wrong.

Oh, and check the insunits (in the units dialog box) and make sure both are the same. This has messed me up on other things more than once.

I would also suggest one thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet. Don't laugh, because a LOT of people do this.

Make sure that the drawing you are referencing into the others isn't entities drawn in paperspace. Nothing drawn in paperspace will show up when it's referenced into another drawing.

You would be surprised how often this has happened with coworkers and clients of mine.
