Sketchup content to Revit Families

Initially quite pleased to have brought in a Sketchup, Rooflight Co. UK conservation rooflight and had it appear in the actual roofslope (using a Formfonts.com model imported into a generic roof template and adding a Void extrusion to cut the roof )...
but obviously it is upside down in the screenshot.

I can rotate it within the family which seems to fix it in Revit, but that makes it upside down viewed in the Family Editor - does that matter would anyone know, please?

There is a vast amount of good quality content in formfonts.com (subscription is $$$/annum) but mainly in Sketchup form, although the Revit models are slowly increasing in number.

Umm, no obvious reason why you have to bring the sketchup model in upside down - possibly something to do with slope.

Anyway, after a lot more research and tryouts, it seems bringing in sketchup models for use as objects isn't quite as straightforward as I thought.

For a start Revit Help recommends exporting them first to .dwg but also you cannot seem to explode, even partially, models brought in without some errors or bits disappearing. Help seems to suggest that you leave the imports as Linked.

So, while I've got my rooflights into the model in Revit (see attached) I cannot make the glass transparent for example (should have just deleted it from within Sketchup I suppose?).

One thing I cannot work out is how to make Revit see the rooflights as windows - at the moment they come in as components. I am sure I have seen this done in a tutorial somewhere?

I haven't had much luck with Sketchup either. Most of the time it comes in distorted in some fashion.

In the family editor, go to Settings-Family Category and Parameters and change the category to Windows.

and now my rooflights appear in the plan view below - not sure how Revit achieves that - a view setting I suppose? - but it seems to be default behaviour for roof windows.
