I like modeling in SU because it is easy to work in and really fast. Another great thing is that renders in a very sketchy manner. So, I really don't like to use any mapped materials or anything that tries to be too realistic in the program. Instead, I like using solid colors or the sketchy materials to rep mats.

If I remember correctly, you can bring SU mats into VIZ and then modify them. This may be best if you have a whole lot of materials assigned to many objects. Otherwise, if SU is grouping objects with similar materials together on the export and you only have a few materials, then keeping your SU materials isn't all that helpful. Just import or create your mats into your VIZ file and assign them to the few objects in the file.
