Unhappy Layer is OFF but Text still displays

hi, ive got 2 problems that are giving me a headache, i think they are related or may have a similar solution (or at least i hope they do)

1 - for some reason i have text that is still being shown on the screen even though the layer is off. all other obects in the layer are gone except the text. why and how do i make it go away?

2 - in another drawing i recieved i have objects and text which say its from a certain layer but isnt. ie, according to the properties its on layer 1 but it shows only when if layer 2 is on, and layer 1 is empty. again i ask why and how do i make it better?

    all help is greatly appreciated.
    thankyou

    Shawn.

Is layer 0 or DEFPOINTS off or frozen as well?

Send me a file with only one or two of these text
entities in then to experiment with.

Lightbulb Re: Layer is OFF but Text still displays

Are these objects / text in a block? If so, the objects share the properties of the layer they were created on and the layer that was current when inserted.

    Might be worth checking out.

Exclamation Re: Layer is OFF but Text still displays

    Hi

If you are able/willing to distribute your problem drawing file(s), why not post them here within the Forum; thus enabling anyone who is willing to offer some help, access to them.....

    Have a good one, Mike

ok i think they are actually the same problem, whatever the case it still doesnt make sense to me.

i have attached the file, it is actually just a small copied section of a much larger file i am working on. but the problem is still there.
all the text (which is said to be on other layers DEVICE and CONV-BOTTLE) is only affected by the TEXT layer.

    Thanks
    Shawn.

    Shawn,

The problem with these TEXT entities
is that they are ATTRIBUTES and they
were defined on the TEXT layer.
That is whay they are acting the way they are.
You can use the enhanced attribute editor to
move them to another layer as desired to fix them.

    i see.....

i dont think i have the enhanced attribute editor, so how can i change them to thier actual layer?
in properties if i change them to a different layer it doesnt really do anything, it says its in the new layer but still is controlled by another.

    Thank you.

    Try this command

    EATTEDIT

If you don't have it, what version are you running?

    Hi

Unless you're using AutoCAD LT 2005 you won't have the command ._EAttEdit

As a possible alternative, check out the following thread -

    Rotate Attributes

Using the command ._-AttEdit will give you the option to change the Layer of Attributes.

    Have a good one, Mike

    Hey guys, thanks a lot,

i am using autocad 2002LT, and eattedit doesnt work, but attedit does (although it didnt do much, it is a command, basically allowing me to edit the text)

i have gained a better understanding of what and how blocks work (and i guess attributes) but i think its all unnecessary for my use. using GROUP and MTEXT works so much better, and easier.
i figure ill delete all of these "attributes" and reenter them as normal text, it will save me a lot of trouble.

maybe you guys can explain what the point is for attributes and blocks.

    thanks again.
    shawn.
