    Default Navisworks/ Revit Structure 2008

    I was curious if anyone has had success with Navisworks and Revit 2008? We just got the software and I trying to output a .nwc file from Revit, but the external tool isn't showing up, even though the 2008 plug-in from Navis is checked on.

    I prefer to export to .dwg and then import that into navisworks. The elements are then categorized by layer rather than material type. It is a bit easier to assign properties using the presenter tools inside of navisworks this way. Also when you make changes in revit you just export the updated model to cad and refresh it in Navisworks. It will retain any transformations, materials, colors, transparencies, that have been assigned to unchanged elements.

    It makes it very easy during coordination to see what elements have changed.

    I have not used the plugin for RS2008 but IIRC the plugin for RS4 (or was it 3) dumped everything into a .nwc file sorted by material and not object type.

    I haven't had any problems. Was Revit Structure 2008 installed but closed when you installed NavisWorks?

    You could try reinstalling NavisWorks, or try adding the following text to your Revit.ini under External Commands:

    ECName1=NavisWorks JetStream v5
    ECDescription1=File exporter for NavisWorks JetStream v5
    ECClassName1=NavisWorks5.LcRevitExportCommand
    ECAssembly1=C:\Program Files\NavisWorks 5\nwexportrevit2008\nwexportrevit2008.dll

    You may need to adjust the path in ECAssembly1, or adjust the numbering depending on how many external commands you already have installed.

    We are talking about NavisWorks Jetstream version 5, and not Freedom, right?

    Thanks for the reply. Yes, we are working with Navis Jetstream version 5 and no Revit was not open when Navis was installed. I didn't know it needed to be. I will let you know how it turns out.

    Revit needs to be closed when you install Navisworks. It appends your Revit.ini file. You can also verify that Revit.ini is not marked read only.

    Have you heard that Autodesk bought Navisworks?
