    Default AutoCAD 2008: This installation is forbidden by system policy

    Afternoon all,

    Ive just received my AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite. I have installed Revit
    2008 no problems. Now Iam trying to install AutoCAD 2008 but I keep
    receiving the following error.

    ---------------------------
    AutoCAD 2008
    ---------------------------
    This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system
    administrator.

    D:\x86\support\msxml\msxml6.msi
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

    I have been to the Windows Update web page and installed every update that
    is available. I have tried running this file manually from the DVD. Still
    nothing.

    Iam installing to my laptop. Iam not connected to any networks. Im running
    Windows XP Pro. The user Im logged in as is the administrator for the computer.

    I have no more ideas on what I can do to install this thing. I have never had any problems like this before installing any prior version of AutoCAD.

    Has anyone encountered this before and what do I have to do to fix the problem?? Any help would be appreciated.

    I have this exact problem as well. The fix mentioned in the link does not work though, since that is for Map 3D 2008, not AutoCAD LT 2008. The setup.ini file does not have that structure. The file is as follows:

    [SETUP]

    SETUP_TITLE=Autodesk CAD Manager Tools Setup

    SETUP_LOG=%temp%\Autodesk CAD Manager Tools Setup.log

    SETUP_OSMAJVER=5

    SETUP_OSMINVER=0

    SETUP_SERVICEPACKMAJOR=4

    SETUP_MIN_SERVICEPACKMAJOR=3

    SETUP_PRODUCT_MSI=CADManager.msi

    SETUP_PRODUCT_NAMES=MSI CADMGR

    SETUP_UI_MODE=;q - no UI; qb - basic UI; qf - full UI

    [PREV_PRODUCT_IDS]

    [MSI]

    PRODUCT_NAME=MSI Runtime 3.1

    INSTALL_IGNORE_FAILURE=NO

    INSTALL_CMD=..\..\msi\WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

    INSTALL_CMD_ARGS=/quiet /norestart

    INSTALL_PLATFORM=WIN32

    INSTALL_UPGRADE=MSI

    INSTALL_MINIMAL_VERSION=3.1.4000.2435

    [CADMGR]

    PRODUCT_NAME=Autodesk CAD Manager Tools

    INSTALL_ROLLBACKABLE=YES

    INSTALL_CMD=CADManager.msi

    INSTALL_CMD_ARGS=/L*v %temp%\CADManagerInstall.log

    INSTALL_UNDO_CMD=CADManager.msi

    INSTALL_UNDO_CMD_ARGS=/qb!

    INSTALL_HIDE_WRAPPER_UI=YES

    I don't see any references to MS XML. If anyone knows how to prevent the installer from attempting to install MS XML then please explain.

    G'day Chris,

    Yup youre correct the link to the other post is for MAP. So totally different biscuits. I have had a support request in with my reseller and with Autodesk. I have had a reply from Autodesk to try the following:

    1) Loaded msmxl6 from Microsoft website, Copied CD contents to c:\, changed ini file to remove references to msxml, install worked.
    Downloading and installing the MSXML6 file from the MS website was something that I have already tried. I still couldnt install this file separately. So Iam choosing to ignore that part for the moment. I have copied the CD to my harddrive and modified the portion of the setup.ini file to remove the references to MSXML6. I think you have to leave the heading portion in and just remove the lines of code to install it. I then tried to run this and was told that I have other versions still on my machine and that I have to remove them first.

    But considering I have work committments using 2007 with another addon program I cancelled this. I was hoping to install both 2007 and 2008. So I can continue to work on 2007 until I get 2008 up and running properly with the addon program.

    But alas, things arent always so simple. I will probably take a stab this weekend when I have time and let you know how I go.

    If you have any luck beforehand or learn something new, let me know as it would be appreciated.

    Scott,

    In theory there should be two ways to tackle this problem.

    1. I already have MS XML 6.0 installed on my laptop from the factory. I probably do not need to install again through the AutoCAD 2008 LT setup. So if the setup of MS XML can be bypassed then the rest of the AutoCAD setup should proceed without error.

    2. The policy settings setup by the factory are not allowing MS XML to install. One should by able to modify the policy settings to allow the MS XML on the AutoCAD 2008 LT setup disk to be installed. I'm uncertain though whether this will affect other programs. I'm going to check into this when I get home.

    My 2008 is an upgrade version. I have full version 2006 LT. I successfully installed the 2006 LT on the laptop and transferred the license from my PC. So currently, I have a version of CAD on both computers but I would have preferred it the other way around with 2008 on the laptop (I've become so attached to the Block Editor in 2008...

    Cheers Chris,

    For the info. Can I ask how you can tell if MSXML6 is already installed on your machine? If you can also let me know about changing the policy settings and how you do it that would be great. I did change a setting about installing programs within the policy settings but that didnt help, but wasnt really sure what I was doing.

    LOL! Block Editor....Havent gotten that far yet....This is the first time ever that I cant install a program or even AutoCAD.

    Thanks again

    Thanks Dilbert, I did see that thread. Again, that is a similar yet unrelated problem.

    Scott,

    I went to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and it shows MS XML 6.0 Parser is installed.

    Btw, I checked out the local policies, specifically any software restrictions. There are none. So now I'm really confused as to what "system policy" is preventing the install of the MS XML from the AutoCAD setup. Perhaps something in the registry? (dang, I know I should have taken that course...)

    Here is the solution that I found...

    In the installation directory find the *.ini file with the installation configuration. Mine is called Civil 3D Land 08.ini because I am installing Civil 3D, however this solution should also work for all AutoCad 2008 products.

    First download and install the latest version of MSXML6.0

    Second open the installation *.ini file and look for the section:

    [MSXML]
    PRODUCT_NAME=MSXML 6
    EXE_PATH=support\msxml\msxml6.msi
    EXE64_PATH=support\msxml\msxml6_x64.msi
    IGNORE_FAILURE=YES
    EXE_PARAM=
    PATCHES=
    PATCH_STATE=

    and change it to

    [MSXML]
    PRODUCT_NAME=MSXML 6
    #EXE_PATH=support\msxml\msxml6.msi
    #EXE64_PATH=support\msxml\msxml6_x64.msi
    IGNORE_FAILURE=YES
    EXE_PARAM=
    PATCHES=
    PATCH_STATE=

    save and rerun the installation.

    sfeek,

    I posted the entire contents of the setup.ini file above and there is no section for MSXML.
