    Default Custom linetype error message

The error message isn't custom, my linetype is and it's generating an error message...

When I generate it in the local drive next to the acad.lin it works just fine. Only after placing my custom.lin file on the network so everybody can use it AutoCAD spits the following at me:
"Bad definition of LINE_1 at line 137 of file S:\... blah blah, network location\custom.lin"
Does it have something to do with the location of the file? My profile already has a support file search path for the network location.

the custom.lin file holds the following lines:

    *LINE_1,Line #1 --1----1----1----1----1--
    A,.5,-.2,["1",ROMANS,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.2

It's merely an adjustment of the ----HW---- one where the HW has been replaced by 1 and the textstyle has been changed.

    Any thoughts? Much appreciated.

Nothing wrong with that linetype definition.

Make sure the drawing contains a textstyle named ROMANS.

Got it, t was indeed the text style. I thought it referred to a font name.

    Thanks,

That is the problem with complex linetypes.

Ones with text are dependent on the STYLE used in the definition, and one with shapes are dependent on the presence of the correct external SHAPE file.

The error message is pretty worthless also. How much more effort would it have taken to say "The STYLE used in this linetype is not available" (autodesk's error message that you received)

We use a substantial number of complex linetypes with text elements, and always load them through custom menu items. This allows us to ensure that the required TextStyle is always present.

    Hmmmm... Interesting David.
You mean you have a drawing somewhere that holds your required text styles and associated linetypes which you insert through a menu/toolbar/tool palette?
I don't have a great deal of users that require custom linetypes but have been extensively expanding our tool palettes, might as well include some of the more commonly used custom ones in there.

    Thank you,

    David

FWIW - all our textstyles and linetypes are in our template drawing(s).

In the case where we are working on a drawing from the outside, we can use ADC to drag/drop these elements into the current drawing.
