Default Help with relative path for data shortcuts

    Hi All,
I am struggling with misconections with data shortcuts. I think a relative reference would solve my problems. I am trying to use a USB key as my disk between work and home . I haven't found any concise "how to" instruction on the help files yet about creating relative references. I am also going between a XP computer to a Vista computer. I have C3D 2008 SP1 installed. Some times I get a connection but other time not. I haven't been able to find a common thread between sucesses. Any guidence will be appreciated.

After further study I guess The main problem I am having is understanding how to manually edit the data shortcuts path after it is created by selection? The vista dialogue does not let me edit the path unless there is some control I am missing. Or how do I specify a relative path to my shortcut?

    Hi CD,
I have seen a number of dialog problems with Vista. Things like dropdowns not showing up or dialogs coming up completely blank. Sorry couldn't be of more help

    Mark,
Thanks for your reply. I was reading over on Autodesk civil community site and saw some similar problems posted concerning editing data shortcut paths. One proposed solution was to get an XML editor and change the XML files. I think I will give it a shot. I'll let you know if it works.

Editing XML file worked great. I downloaded a program from microsoft called XmlNotepad. I edited out the paths to the USB drive letter and kept the path to the folder the file and shortcuts are in. It seems my big problem was that each computer assigned the USB drive a different Letter.
