    Default Flipping door swings

Most provided content doors have flipper indicators to change the doorswings from in to out, however for external doors it seems to flip the whole door so that the outer cill is now on the inside...

    which can't be right?

or have I just come across some bad examples so far?

you will need to rework the lines in the family. the symbolic lines are probably ment for the door to swing either out or in. and if you want to filp the swing you are not just flipping which way the doors swings. you are fliping the entire family in the wall. make 2 families. one where the door swings in and another where the door swings out for egress doors.

    OR

just remove the sill from the family and model them as a seperate family or inplace family. then you will only need 1 family for the door type.

    thanks.

The real answer of course is to build your own families, and I suppose the supplied content gives you 'make-dos' and examples until you gain the expertise...

also the bits left behind in supplied content door and window families as you adjust the frame or somesuch show you what to look out for in your own

Or download one of the many Door Swing families from this forum, and nest them into a door family as a shared family. Then you can flip the panel independently of the door. It is a simple customization of the OOTB families. Takes only two or so minutes.

No need to use two families. Just create your symbolic linework (or model geometry if you need it) for the sill on the interior and exterior sides of the door. Then use visibility parameters to control which sill lines show up.

The flip controls do flip the entire family so it works exactly as intended, as strange as that seems. It would be an excellent improvement to be able to specify which elements are supposed to flip or not. Then again...it would be just one more level of complexity on top of the already "simple" family editor.

many thanks all, that's a great help.

I'm just surprised, coming from using other 3D apps like Allplan that the doorswings in the supplied content don't flip irrespective of the frame orientation - but I guess that assumes the supplied content is a sort of 'Revit standard'... whereas it seems to be a collection of unpredictable quality.

that said, the ability to completely customise your own parametric objects is one of the things that attracted me to Revit... so it isn't really a problem
