Default Central file at the office... local file at home

I'm in a situation where I have a local file on my laptop, central file on a server at the office. Can't get into the office tomorrow but I have some work I need to do. I can open the local file and get the error message that I can make changes but they may 'be lost' next time I synch with the central file.
I am currently the only one working on this project file (at least until the next time I get into the office)
As I understand it I have two options. I just need to know what is the safest approach.
    1. Continue working on the local file and save it to my laptop. When i get into the office next time, save to central and all should be well (right?)
    2. Save the local laptop file as a 'new' central file. Check out worksets to my hearts content. Do my work on that file and then copy it to the server next time I log into the office.

My local file is current with all worksets up to date and no worksets checked out.
My only concern is that i do the work ad it vanishes into thin air when I return to work.
    Any thoughts would be helpful.

You've got it covered pretty well Dimitri as long as your words are true above (remain true).

Either check out your worksets "at risk" and when you get back to the office, STC.

    Or

Instead of creating a new central file at home, just save the local as the new Central when you get back to the office. Changing the location of the central file you make at home is going to force you to make a new central file at the office anyway.

    Thanks Steve,

Now I can go to the golf course tomorrow with no worries (actually, drive my son to the golf course and sit in the clubhouse and work.... what's wrong with this picture ?)
