    Default OSNAP to ignore Z

I could have sworn the was a system variable for OSNAPS to ignore any Z coordinates. Am I going crazy? I can't find anything.

From AutoCAD 2006 there is a new variable for this question.
    Check OSNAPZ variable?

Close, but not exactly. From the help for "osnapz".

    Type:IntegerSaved in:Not-savedInitial value:0
Controls whether object snaps are automatically projected onto a plane parallel to the XY plane of the current UCS at the current elevation.
    0
Osnap uses the Z-value of the specified point
    1
Osnap substitutes the Z-value of the specified point with the elevation (ELEV) set for the current UCS

With OSNAPZ set to 1 and ELEV set to 0 it worked for my purposes, Thanks.

For most people working in 2d most of the time that's effectively the same thing but it's good to be precise.

It's also in the drafting tab in the options dialog box under object snap options

I knew I saw it somewhere in a dialog box. I would go to the OSNAP settings dialog box and look there but it never turned up no matter how many times I looked You think they would put it there too.

My problem is that it resets every time I open AutoCAD and begins snapping to the z coordinates for the points I'm working with. How do I make this stop? I would like it to maintain the settings I have preciously selected, especially within a given drawing.

You can add something to your acaddoc.lsp file to set the variable (OSOPTIONS) to whatever you need it set to.
