Default Display only Wall Core Boundary (Structure)

To have walls display only "Core Boundary"...

    1. Visibility/Graphics - check "Cut Line Styles", then Edit. Change the lineweight of structure from 2 to 3. All the other lineweights should remain at 2 so they are controlled by common edges. Also change all the colors (except structure) to white.

    2. Visibility/Graphics - under walls, uncheck "Common Edges".

    3. Visibility/Graphics - Override Model Patterns: check "Cut Pattern Color" - choose white.

    4. Done...

Optional: Save as a view template.

Is this in 8.1? I haven't converted yet.

Thumbs up Re: Display only Wall Core Boundary (Structure)

The only thing left to do is get rid of the hatches -- so if you set the Cut Pattern Color override in visibility/graphics to white, all the hatches go away -- including the structure's!

    It's a good tip Tony...

great tip...I have often struggled with finish layers returning inaccurate dimensioning especially when I need to export these drawings to dwg format for consultants.

Wow Tony! How did I ever miss this tip? Its only been 10 years that I've been asking Revit to do this. Now, this isn't as easy as a click of a button (ie, Thin Lines button) but this is a big move forward, and all it took was a google search to bring me back to this forum. Hope all is well for you Tony!

Hey Wes Macaulay, what do you think the chances of Revit ever creating a "show core only" button for us residential designers is? And, is there any new functionality I've missed out on?
(I'm not designing personally day-to-day anymore, so I'm a bit out of the loop sometimes!)
I found Tony's tip right on the Autodesk website, so is Tony's method the "officially" sanctioned way from Autodesk? http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...linkID=9243099

Ha. My response is: Do you look good in blue?

    I wouldn't hold my breath!

Jokes aside, perhaps the Factory will add this functionality in the future if enough of their high-seat-count customers demand it

Old post, hopefully somebody can still help with this

All of the above makes sense to me, except step #3: Visibility/Graphics - Override Model Patterns: check "Cut Pattern Color" - choose white

I'm not seeing the Override Model Patterns button/menu and don't know how to check the "Cut Pattern Color" box.
Please explain further. I'm using 2016 and am working with a large architectural model and would love to see only core boundary to place structural walls in the correct alignment.

    Thanks

That setting would be for the WALL category not the Common Edges.
You can select White and Solid Fill for the Cut Pattern override.
